Japan

Tis one crazy place.

But oh how I miss California and it's crazy crazy drivers. I miss being one of those crazy drivers. But alas the transportation system here in Japan just rocks. I do love the fact that I don't /need/ to own a car in order to live comfortably here.

But I do miss Mexican food. Badly.

Still, moving to another country is, to put it lightly, an interesting experience. I say interesting is "lightly" describing the situation because making a move to a foreign place is a challenge, and I don't mean just getting used to the different customs or being prepared to A) be laughed at for you ignorance or B) get in trouble for you ignorance. I'm also talking about the government/bank/phone/apartment/butterfly-net-quest side to it all. Now I know how people felt when they moved to my neighborhood from afar back in the States, though given it was the States, it was probably more of a headache XD

The reason I moved to Japan was, as I mentioned in an earlier journal, for a job. I took a job as a CG Animator for OLM Digital in Tokyo, Japan, and so far the experience overall has been good. I like my small but cozy apartment, the job is good (just LONG hours--at least 10 hours a day, 6 days a week) and except for the creepy old men, the people are nice.

What I love most is that I have found this deep rooted drive to get better with my art. As I see it, I am far behind. I have much catching up to do. Much drawing to do! ...of course when I have the time ^^ (yay crazy Japanese + industry work hours!) Still, I want to draw everyday, and my goal is to get 10times better by the end of the year.

So with that said, back to drawing!

R.I.P. Sandbot

I just can't believe that one of the most talented people I know, and one of my dearest friends is gone.

About a week ago a lovable and caring person passed away far too young than anyone should have to move on to that other place. Michael Sandborn ~msandborn was an incredible artist who I believed without a doubt would make it. When the news came that Michael died from a ruptured brain aneurysm, I along with everyone who Mike shared his affections smile and incredible art with, had our faith shattered.

This Sunday is his memorial/funeral. I wish I could attend, but being halfway around the world doesn’t help this predicament. I remember the emails he sent me asking how Japan was going, or that crazy birthday announcement he passed around school for my birthday. They are still in my inbox where they will forever remain.

The last thing he ever critiqued for me was the AM character profile drawings, of which he liked Rodger the best. I think I do too. But it was unfinished. I wish so much that I could show Mike the finished drawing.

He was working on a sketchbook, felt really great about his art seeing his improvement. We were geeking out over Dr. Horrible and he was going to do some more fan art of the mini series.

I feel a great injustice in the world about this. Mike had so many stories to finish, so many more drawings to complete.

I realize death is a part of life. I know it more than I wish to having lost my brother four years ago. Mike was like a brother to me (both Korean as well) and this stings. I really hope Mike’s fiancée is holding in, along with his family and hers.

Mike, wherever you, I wish you the best. I pray for you and for some light in this darkness.

Yo everyone!

Sorry for the random dump of DA submissions (and I have more in stock to put up).

Life's been busy but I've got some good news! I'm taking off to Japan to start work as a CG Animator for an awesome company over there within a month. So life is indeed hectic.
